When Lincoln Riley elected to leave Oklahoma for USC, former Sooners coach Bob Stoops stepped up into an interim role, giving the program some stability while athletic director Joe Castiglione looked for Riley’s replacement. And that act of sacrifice was not lost on another legendary former Oklahoma coach.
Barry Switzer has continued to take an active role around the Oklahoma program after leading the Sooners to three national titles during his reign as head coach. And he said that Stoops “exemplifies what it is to be loyal and dedicated to something you love.”
“Bob Stoops last night at Chili’s in Broken Arrow recruiting for OU,” Switzer wrote. “Today he was in Lubbock, Texas.
“People laugh for some reason, but they’d give anything to have a HOF coach so dedicated and loyal to their university that he will stop everything going in his life in a second and go balls to the wall for them. Bob Stoops isn’t doing this for money, he’s made plenty of it. He’s doing it because he loves the University of Oklahoma. Bob Stoops exemplifies what it is to be loyal and dedicated to something you love. Sooner Nation loves you, Coach Stoops!!!”
