There will be no Deer District celebration for Game 7 of the Eastern Conference semifinals.
Following a series of shootings Friday night after the Bucks lost to Boston to force a Game 7 on Sunday afternoon, the Bucks elected to cancel the watch party on the plaza in front of Fiserv Forum. The Deer District reached capacity of 11,000 fans for Game 6, but many were sent scrambling when gunshots sounded just after the game.
Three people (including a teenage girl) were shot in the area around Fiserv Forum, at Martin Luther King Drive and Highland Avenue, roughly a block away from the Deer District. A 19-year-old has been arrested in connection with that shooting.
The other incidents took place nearby on Water Street near Highland Avenue.
“In order to allow law enforcement to devote needed resources to the continued investigation of last night’s events, we have decided to cancel tomorrow’s planned watch party on the plaza,” the Bucks said in a statement. “Deer District businesses will remain open as usual.
