Colorado Avalanche forward Nazem Kadri, who has a lengthy suspension history, is looking at another after he received a match penalty for an illegal check to the head Wednesday night.
A match penalty requires an automatic review by the league. The penalty was confirmed on replay.
St. Louis Blues defenseman Justin Faulk received the high hit from Kadri during the third period and went to the dressing room. The Blues scored on the ensuing five-minute power play to pull within 3-2.
Kadri, who arrived to the Avalanche in a 2019 trade, twice was suspended for questionable hits during the first round while he was with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The suspensions were considered the reason that the Maple Leafs dealt him.
He got three playoff games during the 2018 playoffs for a hit from behind on the Boston Bruins’ Tommy Wingels.
The following year, he was suspended for the remainder of the first round for a Game 2 cross-check on the Bruins’ Jake DeBrusk.
Kadri has five suspensions in his career, though none with Colorado.
