Georgia commit Gunner Stockton set the Peach State’s all-time record for career touchdown passes Friday night, eclipsing Trevor Lawrence’s impressive total during Rabun County 56-14 win over Union County. Stockton’s record-setting 162nd career scoring toss came on a 1-yard throw.
Stockton is 68 yards away from passing 3,000 yards passing on the season and trails Lawrence’s state record 13,902 yards passing by 1,447, according to Now Habersham,
The 6-foot-1, 220-pounder is the sixth-best quarterback and No. 61 player overall in the 2022 247Sports Composite rankings. Georgia coach Kirby Smart watched Stockton at one of his games earlier this month, and took in 2023 No. 1 overall player Arch Manning last week in New Orleans.
“Thick built player with average height for the position,” 247Sports national recruiting analyst Chris Singletary writes in his scouting report of Stockton. “He is a better athlete than on would think, He is able to make plays in the pocket when the rush breaks down by using his feel and presence for where the rush is coming from and how he needs to buy time. Does a good job of keeping his eyes downfield to make a play when he is flushed and on the move.
Shows good arm strength with the ability to make throws with touch when need be allowing for his receivers to make plays on the move to get extra yardage. He has a quick release and is able to process if his 1st read isn’t there to get through his progression. By throwing and running for a combined 4,709 yards passing and rushing along with 71 touchdowns as a junior you can see the growth in his game over that last couple of years.”
