EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Daniel Jones deserved better.
Everything was seemingly set up for the Giants’ quarterback to cement the most significant performance of his career to date with a victory, and in prime time, on the road, against the reigning NFC East champions, last Thursday night.
This was the ultimate blueprint for his success: no turnovers, game-breaking runs, the kind of throws that earned him the nickname “Danny Dimes” when he was a rookie.
Yet when Washington’s second chance at the game-winning field goal split the uprights as time expired, Jones was forced to walk off the field with another loss.
Now, with the Giants at 0-2 for the eighth time in nine years, preparing to face the winless Atlanta Falcons, the challenge becomes one that Jones has faced before:
The Giants failed to win with Jones at his best; can they prevent him from trying to do even more, which has often brought out the worst in his game?
