Teyonah Parris, who plays Monica Rambeau in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, teases the sequel to 2019’sCaptain Marvel, entitled The Marvels, will be epic. Parris made her MCU debut in the first Marvel Studios series to premiere on Disney+, WandaVision, as the grown-up version of Monica Rambeau, daughter of Maria (Lashana Lynch), Carol Danvers’ (Brie Larson) best friend. It’s revealed in episode 4 of the series that she also joined the Air Force before being recruited by S.W.O.R.D to investigate the Westview Anomaly.
After being trapped in the Hex, tossed out by Wanda Maximoff, and then forcefully reentering it, Monica’s physiology is mutated, giving her the abilities including energy absorption. In the comics, Monica becomes a superhero who goes by the names Photon, Spectrum, and eventually Captain Marvel. Piggybacking off the mid-credits scene from WandaVision’s finale, the upcoming sequel, director Nia DaCosta’s The Marvels, will see Monica team up with Carol as well as Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury) and Jimmy Woo (Randall Park). The film will also see the big-screen debut of Kamala Khan Aka Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani).
