Prior to the first week of the season, it would have been hard to find anyone picking Michigan to reach the College Football Playoff. Now, the Wolverines are gearing up for a CFB Playoff semifinal matchup with the Georgia Bulldogs, and Aidan Hutchinson explained what this season has been like for the team.
In a shortened 2020 season, Michigan played in just six games and went 2-4. Because of that, expectations were not high for this team in 2021. That did not matter much to the Wolverines, who are 12-1, capped off the regular season with an emphatic win over rival Ohio State, and beat Iowa in blowout fashion to capture the Big Ten Championship.
In an interview with Marty Smith of ESPN, Hutchinson said he feels like Michigan was able to silence all the doubters this year. The Wolverines were more under the preseason radar than usual this year, but they already have a conference championship and are looking for more.
“I think this Michigan team proved everybody wrong,” Hutchinson said. “People thought we were going to win six or seven games. We’ve already got a Big Ten Championship banner hanging up there. We’ve got to beat Georgia, and we gotta play in that national championship to get one more banner up there.”
