It’s finally time to put a bow on the transfer rankings for the 2021 cycle. While a few more players will trickle through the portal in the next few weeks before it officially switches to 2022 on Aug. 1, the recent July 1 eligibility cutoff gives us a natural stopping point (any player wanting immediate eligibility for this fall had to enter the portal by July 1). The weeks between 247Sports’ Transfer Portal Top 100 and today’s expansion to 150 saw another flurry of activity, with coveted players like Jake Smith (from Texas to USC), Dare Rosenthal (LSU to Kentucky) making moves.
There was no shortage of new players to assign grades to — Notre Dame OL transfer Cain Madden nearly crashed the top 10 — and the 247Sports transfer rankings team made some 11th-hour changes, too, such as bumping Georgia’s Derion Kendrick back up to his original rating of 94 overall with his legal issues cleared.
With over 2,500 FBS players entering the transfer portal this offseason, making the Top 150 means a player is among the top 6% of all transfers. In years past with a less robust portal, it was difficult ranking players further than a top 25. Before we introduce the Top 150, let’s run through the process.
