Miami has officially announced the hiring of Mario Cristobal as its next head coach. In order for the Hurricanes to lure Cristobal away from Oregon, they had to pay a hefty price.
This offseason, there have been some massive contracts handed out to big names in the coaching world, and Cristobal is no exception. Cristobal’s contract with Miami is worth $80 million over 10 years, per a report from Manny Navarro of The Athletic. In addition to Cristobal’s salary, the Hurricanes will be injecting a lot of money into his coaching staff as well.
“The deal Mario Cristobal signed with Miami this morning is 10 years, $8 million per season with significant investments for support staff, assistant coaches, recruiting,” Navarro tweeted. “Miami will have the highest assistant coaching pool in the ACC, a source said.”
After a 7-5 season in 2021, Miami fired Manny Diaz to create an opening for Cristobal. The Hurricanes ponied up and were able to get the former Oregon coach to Coral Gables. In the official announcement from Miami, Cristobal said that he is thrilled about his return to the program.
