UCF will be without quarterback Dillon Gabriel indefinitely after the talented junior injured his shoulder on the final play of Friday night’s 42-35 loss at Louisville. Gabriel was tossed to the turf on his throwing shoulder while trying to make a play and keep the football live during several laterals as the Knights attempted a miracle.
UCF updated Gabriel’s status on Saturday afternoon, tweeting the signal caller suffered a fractured left clavicle that would not require surgery. Gabriel wrote in a personal note he is unsure when he’ll be able to return to the lineup.
Gabriel, whose only turnover came in the final minute, was seen leaving the UCF locker room with his arm in a sling and he was reportedly evaluated prior to the Knights’ flight home. Gabriel led college football in passing yards per game last season and his absence would be a huge loss for the Knights.
“I really don’t know,” UCF coach Gus Malzahn said after the game. “I don’t know the diagnosis yet or what’s wrong. He’s a great competitor, great player and competed to the last play.”
