Former Ohio State head football coach Urban Meyer broke his silence on a string of tweets by recently retired Buckeyes defensive back Marcus Williamson, a fifth-year senior who did not travel with the team to Saturday’s Rose Bowl Game and posted a multi-message tirade on social media during the Buckeyes’ battle with the Utes. Williamson took aim at Meyer, sharing some of the issues he had during his time with the program, while also pointing to threats and other various issues that exist within major college football programs.
Jeff Snook, a writer who published multiple Ohio State books, wrote in a Facebook post Sunday that he spoke with Meyer. Meyer denied Williamson’s claim that he showed the team a picture of the late Trayvon Martin when informing players of his no-hoodie requirements, Snook said.
“Our team rule was not hats or hoodies or sunglasses of any kind but only in team meetings, just so we could see their eyes and make sure they were paying attention and not asleep,” Meyer told Snook. “We did not, and never would show a picture of Trayvon Martin. My gosh, no.
