Ex-Oklahoma wide receiver and top-50 recruit Mario Williams transferred to USC to play under head coach Lincoln Riley. Williams transferred to USC before quarterback Caleb Williams did, but explained that he always wanted to play with Williams.
“So we end up meeting at Future 50 — we were down there in Orlando — I saw him … bro, we met through Instagram, I was like, ‘He’s pretty good,'” Williams said recently on Trojans Live. “‘I need him as my quarterback.’
So I was looking at his top schools, and we had some of the similarities. We just kept talking and then we kept the relationship, and then I ended up getting him to come to Oklahoma. Him and his family made that decision to come to Oklahoma. So once he got to Oklahoma, we just built the better relationship.
And once we ended up playing a full season — he didn’t play early on, but in practice, we were killing it. I was just like, ‘This can be good.’ So I was like, ‘Man.’ So then the situation came up with coach Lincoln (Riley), end up finding out he was coming here. We were talking. He was like, ‘Man, that might be the decision.’ And we both made the decision.”
