Washington football coach Kalen DeBoer announced the hire of Vanderbilt defensive tackles coach Inoke Breckterfield to the Huskies’ staff. DeBoer also named Junior Adams, Scott Huff and Nick Sheridan as assistant coaches.
Breckterfield, an alum of Oregon State, joins the Washington staff after one year with Clark Lea at Vanderbilt. This followed six seasons at Wisconsin.
“I’m thrilled that Inoke and his family joining our program,” said DeBoer. “He has consistently recruited and developed defensive linemen at a high level during his coaching career. I am confident that Inoke will continue to be a difference maker as we build our defense.”
Breckterfield is known for his abilities as a developmental coach, and Washington could focus on high-upside defensive line prospects in recruiting as a result. On Wednesday, Breckterfield told reporters that he and Vanderbilt’s staff specifically looked to add as much length and athleticism as possible to his position group all of the Commodores’ signees on the defensive line are listed at 6-foot-6 or taller.
“It was a big point of emphasis,” Breckterfield said. “I think my biggest thing going into this recruiting class was finding length. I wanted 6-foot-5-plus, long-limbed, athletic guys and as you can see with the guys we’ve kind of put up front from the (edge players), the D-linemen they’re all long and athletic.
